On the afternoon of December 11, 2024, in order to thoroughly study and implement the important speeches of President Xi Jinping on education and the spirit of the National Education Conference, Prof. Qu Zhenyuan, chief advisor of All-China Society for Information Research of Higher Education Institutes, former president of the China Association of Higher Education, and former CPC secretary of China Agricultural University, was invited to deliver an academic lecture at Graduate School of Education(GSE). He shared his insights and research findings on the topic of “Disciplinary Positioning and Development Strategies in the ‘Double First-Class’ Construction under the Context of Building a Leading Country in Education”. The lecture was hosted by Wang Mingyang, the vice dean of GSE. All GSE faculty and some graduate students participated in this concentrated theoretical study session.

During the lecture, Prof. Qu Zhenyuan elaborated on three aspects: the role of “Double First-Class” construction in the development of a leading country in higher education, the positioning of discipline construction within “Double First-Class” construction, and strategies for strengthening discipline construction. Prof. Qu Zhenyuan closely aligned his discussion with the current international and domestic landscape, focusing on hot topics in higher education in the new era. He engaged in discussions and exchanges with GSE faculty and students on topics such as what kind of leading country in higher education to build, how to advance the “Double First-Class” initiative, and how to develop a group of disciplines into world-leading disciplines while driving a larger number of disciplines into the ranks of world-class disciplines.
Qin Huimin, the dean of GSE, presided over the exchange session and delivered a summary speech. He noted that Prof. Qu Zhenyuan’s report was rich in content, supported by detailed data, and presented clear and distinct viewpoints. It deepened GSE faculty and students’ understanding and recognition of discipline development in higher education under the backdrop of building a leading country in education, and also provided us with new insights and inspiration.
