The Chinese Secretariat of China-Africa University Consortium Exchange Mechanism was established on August, 2023. As an important executive institution for China-Africa higher education cooperation, its daily work is jointly undertaken by the Graduate School of Education and the School of African Studies of Beijing Foreign Studies University. Relying on the profound heritage and rich resources of Beijing Foreign Studies University in the fields of international education exchange and African studies, the Secretariat is committed to promoting in-depth cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and African universities, serving China's diplomatic strategy towards Africa, and promoting the construction of a new era China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the China Association of Higher Education, the Secretariat has actively established a broad cooperation network with more than 100 Chinese and African universities, covering ten major fields including “digital education”, “health and wellness”, “agricultural development”, “trade and investment”, “mining resources”, “connectivity and integration”, “environment and sustainable development”, “language, culture and intercultural learning”, “governance and administration”, and “media communication and national image”. Through organizing activities such as academic seminars, joint research projects, faculty and student exchanges, the Secretariat actively promotes mutual learning and reference between China and Africa in educational concepts, teaching methods, scientific research innovation, etc., building a solid platform for China-Africa higher education cooperation.
The Secretariat is also responsible for compiling and publishing the China-Africa University Consortium Exchange Mechanism Newsletter, timely and comprehensively notifying Chinese and African universities and relevant institutions of cooperation dynamics, policy interpretations, project progress, etc., providing important decision-making reference for universities and education authorities of both sides. At the same time, the Secretariat establishes extensive connections with government departments, social organizations, enterprises, etc., at home and abroad, integrates resources from all parties, releases special research topics, and provides policy advice and consulting services, offering diversified support and guarantees for China-Africa higher education cooperation projects.
